Comments: Deceptively simple! Implausibly Ancient could almost pass for a species type, and it is very close to species on both sides. Deriving from my first year of hybridizing 2011, this one has been a joy year after year and is very reliable and an excellent breeder. The branches are always tall and always well-branched with lots of buds. The little bright red flowers open well and consistently look nice, and the self-clean, falling off to leave a clean looking clump. Very fertile and showing dark tinted pods, this one carries dark scapes genetics and has produced a number of dark-scaped seedling that I am working with. I produced several hundred seedlings from his cross, and this is the final select of the group and the one I have breed from the most extensively. The rust resistance was stellar through all five years of testing and the thrips resistance is very high. It passes both traits to its seedlings in high percentage. I can’t say enough good things about this one, but the one thing I can say is that it is still here in my garden after over a decade and (to me, at least) that says it all. Very fast increase and recovery from division. Extremely hardy and unfazed by late spring freezes.
