Comments: Ashes To Ashes is another great seedling from Ziggy Played Guitar crossed to a seedling from the old Stout cultivar Challenger crossed to the Murphy cultivar Lucky Streak. Ashes To Ashes has tall scapes at 53" with a big flower that is very striking in appearance. The most striking point to me about the flower is the interesting ruffled, near-white edge on the sepals, which has been a very consistent trait in my garden over many years. Bred in 2014, Ashes To Ashes went through the last two years of my rust resistance screening program with an A+ rating and it shows moderately high thrips resistance. The plant gets large, increases quickly and shows fast recovery from division. It is fertile both ways, though pollen is easier. The seedlings have tended to be tall with narrow petalled flowers in an array of colors. Ashes To Ashes starts flowering in the mid-late season and continues on into the late season. I occasionally see instant rebloom, but it has not been consistent. Flowering in the mid-late through late season means it fills a niche in the garden when most others have finished, and it brings an exotic flash to the garden when not much else is putting on a show. I look forward to seeing it every year. See the images of the flower and the clump below.
