Comments: Amethyst Symmetry is a gorgeous grape-purple flower that has my introduction Origin Of Symmetry as pod parent lending its vigor, gorgeous foliage and strong scapes, with Small World Hip-Hop Music as the pollen parent, lending its gorgeous, rich purple coloring and thrips resistance. The color is intense and bright, but also hard to photograph, usually going to reddish in photos. The color is not maroon, or bright magenta, it is purple. The flowers often show a pale border to petals and sepals, and the sepals appear paler as the purple pigment is stippled heavily on the sepals, creating a lovely, modern effect.

The plant is very vigorous with attractive semi-evergreen foliage that is very hardy in my garden, never showing any die-back even in extremely cold winters with 'polar vortex' events. The plant is fertile both ways (see the last image below to see it covered in pods in late summer 2024), and produces lovely seedlings with rich color and fine plant traits. The scapes are tall, strong and show between 3 to 5 branches, with 3 to 4 being most common. I register my cultivar with the lower average branch count, but I often see more branches, and others growing my cultivars report higher branching and bud counts on many of my cultivars in their gardens with inputs of amendments, water and fertilizer. The pollen parent, Small World Hip-Hop Music shows very good thrips resistance, and Amethyst Symmetry also shows above average thrips resistance, especially for a purple flower. A mature clump is stunning in the garden and its breeding uses are many, including work toward improved thrips resistance in purple shades and spidery flowers, as well as vigor and high fertility.
