Bard The Bowman is pure Mike Huben breeding and is the best of its seedling group. Tested only in the last year of my rust screening program, it showed exceptionally high resistance that year (A+), and I have seen few thrips issues, even after hard freezes and/or spring drought. There are two other standout traits on Bard The Bowman, in addition to the above - the scapes are very dark and the plant has higher late freeze resistance, and thus more attractive foliage, than its siblings, parents or cousins after a late, hard freeze. I consider it very important for dark scape projects in areas where there are late freezes, as well as for use in breeding for rust resistance at the dip level. The plant is also very showy for the garden with its tall, dark scapes and many bright little flowers.
